21-Day Sample Itinerary
We’ve put together an unforgettable 21-day sample itinerary for this Peruvian rock climbing tour. It kicks off with some of the best (and well-known) climbing spots in Huaraz then travels to lesser explored areas full of exciting new routes. The itinerary is flexible and customizable to suit your climbing needs. Click ‘expand’ to read more about each day.
Day 1: Welcome to Lima! We’ll pick you up and get you checked into your hotel in Miraflores. After settling in, we’ll savour our first taste of Peruvian food and enjoy a pisco sour while we go over our itinerary and get to know each other.
Day 2: Fuel-up with a healthy breakfast that highlights the amazing local fruits, then head out for a gear check and practice session at the nearby PIRQA climbing center. Learn how to prepare a classic Peruvian ceviche at a lunchtime cooking lesson, and in the evening, we’ll spoil you with a delicious dinner. Tomorrow, we head out to the mountains!
Day 3: Scenic charter flight to Huaraz over the Cordillera Blanca. Take in the stunning views like a high soaring condor! Get checked into the guest house, explore a little, and then head out for a group dinner.
Day 4: First climbs at altitude at the city crag Los Olivos. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t feel like sending at your grade — it’s your first day climbing at 3000+ meters!
Day 5: Today is a big day in your acclimatization program as we trek to the stunning, turquoise blue waters of Laguna 69. At 4600 meters, the effort will be significant and an important step in preparing your body for a week of rock climbing at Hatun Machay.
Day 6: We’ll return to Huaraz this morning. Enjoy a free day in the city to rest, call home, shop for snacks, and prep for Hatun Machay. Your climbing guide will also be on hand if you feel like some additional bouldering or cragging.
Day 7-13: Get stuck into a full, uninterrupted week of rock climbing in one of the most unique and memorable climbing areas in the world! Each sector is a little bit different, ranging from heavily pocketed honeycomb to curious horns and jugs and sculpted overhangs. As you navigate from zone to zone, you will discover the many mysterious nooks and crannies of the rock forest, home to ancient cave paintings and carvings. The history of the place will penetrate your bones. Keep your camera handy — the sunsets ooze with rich colours and bring the rugged landscape to life. Contemplate the colours in awe, and then feast on delicious dinners prepared by your expedition chef. We make it easy for you: eat, sleep, and just climb, baby!
Day 14: After a heavy week of climbing high, you deserve a break back down in Huaraz. Get a massage, use the internet, or catch a movie. Artisan beers at the bar tonight, anyone?
Day 15: Short drive to the Chancos hot springs to soak and rest our tired muscles. There is a small rock wall nearby if you just can’t sit still for too long!
Day 16-17: Travel to Llaca Valley, which offers a variety of single pitch cragging and multi-pitch trad lines with stunning views of peaks and tumbling glaciers. Local crushers continue to open new lines on the largely untouched walls. We’ll camp here overnight to maximize climbing time on the bomber Peruvian granite.
Day 18: Take advantage of one more rest day before our final push for Inca Wakanka — the day is yours. If you want to climb, we’ll take you back to Los Olivos, explore some local boulders, or go on a scenic hike above the city.
Get to grips with this lesser explored area and be one of the first groups of foreigners to leave chalk prints on the newly established lines. See a new line? We can bust out the equipment and establish a route of your own — you send it, you name it! We’ll camp here for before heading back to Huaraz for a fiesta grande, your proper farewell to cap off three incredible weeks together in one of the greatest climbing areas in all South America.
* Excluding personal climbing gear: shoes, helmet, harness, and belay device.
